Harnessing AI, LGBTIQ+ data gaps & the arts in a post-pandemic era

Conversation with Dhondy

Each month, we invite you to join us for a roundtable discussion led by one of our team. This month, join our General Manager as he leads a roundtable on:

How does AI help us in creating better products, services and policies?

No day goes by without news of another revolutionary AI system launching. While many of these systems can become part of our everyday professional toolkit, only some are fit for purpose. Some also introduce mind-boggling challenges.

We invite business leaders, knowledge professionals and technology strategists to explore the impact of AI on the insights industry. We'll discuss the usefulness of AI across work streams such as research, design, sales and operations that underpin the products, services and policies we’re working towards.

Join us for an expert-led discussion to uncover responsible strategies that drive innovation, collaboration and success in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Generations of change

Real change happens slowly. We’re spotlighting what can be achieved over longer horizons, to inspire us to keep trying.

Rainbow communities have been invisible in our censuses since their inception: never has a country accurately and respectfully captured gender identity and sexuality. This data gap leads to harmful service gaps, which Amnesty International has recognised results in ongoing discrimination of LGBTIQ+ communities.

Finally, for the 2023 Census, Aotearoa New Zealand has included questions about gender identity, sexual identity, and whether respondents were born with a variation of sex characteristics (i.e. intersex variations). The questions were developed through consultation with the community and extensive testing since 2016 and include free-form text captures that also allow respondents to share ‘beyond the checkboxes’.

The road to closing the service gap for LGBTIQ+ communities may be long, but closing the data gap is an essential step in that journey. If this is what change has happened in our generation, what change might we see in another generation from now?

Takes on building the arts sector in a post-pandemic era

It takes many to make positive change. Here's a few initiatives from around the world tackling the same problems we are.

1.
Vic Health is fostering connection and socialisation between young creatives who felt the mental health impact of the pandemic with Future Reset.

2.
Live music is well and truly back! and thanks to festivals like Always Live, the re-ignition of Victoria’s Music scene has been monumental. With the massive success of the 2023 festival debut, I can't wait to see what 2024 has to offer.

3.
If you happen to stumble across a painted piano in a public space, it’s most likely the efforts of the arts initiative Sing for Hope coming to life. These beautifully adorned pianos are placed around the globe for anyone to enjoy.

Things I’ve learnt while co-designing a quantitative research course

Through our work, we are constantly learning and sharing new ideas amongst our team. Here's some things we learnt recently.

1.
To improve our approach to a complex, product design, we sought to modify and adapt a surveying tool like Qualtrics to improve user behaviour predictive analysis and deliver better visual designed infographics.

2.
Working alongside our learning and development training expert allowed us to understand the level of pacing and how beats within training allow for digestion, comprehension and reflection.

3.
Understanding how to advocate for your project amongst the team became just as crucial as the execution. By clearly communicating the project requirements and the parameters of the task, we were able to avoid major pain points.

4.
It was crucial to collaboratively design this program with its intended users alongside the support of subject matter experts to inform decision-making. This allowed us to hit the right content at the right level of experience in the right format.

A MOMENT FOR REFLECTION

How might we balance the day-to-day business of our work with the space to exercise curiosity and creativity?

Reflecting as a team is a big part of our practice. Here's a question from our team to yours for this month.
We are a strategic design consultancy that helps organisations deliver better products, services and policy.
