Dis-information and Digital Guardrails

In Conversation: Dr Robbie Fordyce on Democracy, Disinformation and Digital Guardrails

We’re launching a new segment where we sit down with thinkers and practitioners to explore the systems shaping our world and the interventions we need to shape them differently.

First up: Dr Robbie Fordyce, a lecturer at Monash University and a self-described "less toxic tech bro," joins us for a wide-ranging conversation about the social impacts of AI. From algorithmic virality and disinformation, to labour displacement and digital companions, Robbie unpacks what happens when emerging technologies restructure not just our systems, but our relationships to them — and to each other.

Before it replaces anyone, AI replaces the very idea of what we compete against.

He challenges traditional approaches to tech literacy, makes the case for collective — not just individual — responsibility, and asks the hard questions about how we want to live and work in a rapidly automated world.

Reimagining aged care through the eyes of those who need it.

When BaptistCare tested a new assisted living service, residents shared honest feedback: the offering didn’t meet their needs. The service felt too rigid, too similar to what already existed, and not built with their preferences in mind.

We worked closely with residents to change that. Through hands-on workshops and one-on-one conversations, we co-designed a flexible service model that offered real choice and clarity.

The redesigned package balances support and meals, centres resident voices, and gives BaptistCare a clear path to pilot.
